Frequently Asked Questions

What are your qualifications as a wedding officiant?

Ordained in 2014 by the Universal Life Church, I have since written and performed dozens of weddings. Additionally, my background in theatre and improv comedy mean I am comfortable speaking in front of a crowd while being sure to shine the spotlight on the real stars of the moment - you and your story! Over the years I have overseen ceremonies including a variety of cultural traditions and rituals, such as handfasting, glass breaking, jumping the broom, and candle lighting, to name just a few.

Do you have a specific religious association?

As an officiant, no. I like to say I was raised Jewish but not with God. I've recently discovered the Secular Humanistic Judaism movement, which aligns well with my upbringing and worldview. I always like to learn about and explore other religious histories and faith-based or cultural rituals, especially seeing the ways they're unique as well as evidence of our unified humanity.

Do you lead ceremony rehearsals?

I certainly can, and have done many times in the past! More often than not, I do recommend having a rehearsal. Whether or not I'm there for it is something we can agree upon together and then include in your contract.

Is travel included?

Some travel is always included at no additional charge, and that's up to a 60-minute drive or 60 miles one way, whichever is the greater distance. Longer drives, flights, and overnight accommodation are extra, to help offset the expense.

Will you be responsible for the marriage license?

You have to physically procure it, but I will happily take over responsibility after the ceremony, signing and sending it back to the County Clerk. If you want more guidance and support throughout the acquisition process that's an option, too.

Can we see an example of your work?

Just ask me! I don't publicly share previous ceremonies out of respect for other couples' privacy as well as protecting my own work, but if you're interested in working with me I'd be happy to share examples with you directly.

Do you provide any other wedding services?

With Broadly Entertaining, the events business I co-founded in 2017 (link on homepage!) I can help you with a range of services, including planning support, day-of coordination, and providing or booking musicians, DJs, and MCs.

What discounts or specials do you offer?

Be sure to let me know if you're a healthcare worker, artist, teacher, or in hospitality. Want me to donate a portion of your fee to the queer-focused organization of your choosing? Can do! If you're booking an officiant between 1 and 3 months before your wedding, I'll take 10% off if I'm available. (No more than 2 discounts will be applied simultaneously.)

How much do you charge?

Cost varies depending on how much customization in your ceremony, and whether travel or a rehearsal is included. Discounts can be taken as noted above, and occasionally there's a rush fee for last-minute bookings. All that said, you can expect to spend at least $300 with me as your officiant.

What forms of payment do you accept?

You name it and I can probably take it! ACH transfer directly through your invoice, cash if you prefer, checks are great but occasionally get lost in the mail, PayPal, Zelle, and so on.

Do you list your services on any other platforms?

Sure do! As both an individual Officiant and with Broadly Entertaining, you can find me around the internet. Click on any of the logos below if you'd like to visit these listings.
